Ships are safe in the harbor...but that is not what ships are made for.

Disclaimer:

Don't let the daisy's fool ya! I am not running for office, nor do I teach a Sunday school class. We started this blog to document our family's adoption journey...a journey that is by no means filled with cotton candy and unicorns. It is fueled 100% by love, but I am learning that it is very HARD...every day...and this blog is my therapy I guess...like I have time to go to a real shrink! If your tender ears are offended by my occasional rant or a few Bible curse words here and there...this probably isn't the blog for you.

Qing stuff!

I realize that the Adoption process might be a very foreign concept to many, and with China, things have changed greatly over the past few years.  I thought it would be beneficial to share with you how this all happens.  There are a couple of different paths to a waiting child but for us we found her picture on Rainbow Kids, an "umbrella" website for agencies to advocate for waiting children and provide general education on all things adoption related. I was just researching the different programs, thinking it was something we would look into a few years down the road.  I did a search of waiting kids and picked the special need "Burns" just to see if there were even any little burn survivors out there in the population of waiting orphans.  This is where the proverbial fat lady sang.  I saw her sweet face...and I saw the determination in those eyes...hook in the heart - permanently!

However...I already knew that we were several years from even qualifying to adopt from China - and I suspected that because of our past divorces we would never be China adoption candidates.

I shot a note to the Agency that posted her picture and just asked a little about her, if she was being advocated for, I really don't know why I emailed them knowing we didn'e even qualify...I just couldn't stop thinking about her.  I had seen hundreds of sweet little faces on the photolisting but she was just sewn into my heart.  In my mind when I though of us adopting it was always from a different country and a much younger child...and not necessarily a girl...and several years down the road, then BAM!  She is the one!

The Agency then sent us the information below that details her development and a little about her condition when they found her, her personality and her daily schedule.

Nov. 20, 2009

We also got a few developmental assessments and a couple more pictures showing the affected areas of her burn.
Since the above information is from 2009 we were able to get updated measurements via Ann at Red Thread China.  She is a wonderful lady that puts together care packages and photo albums and translates letters for delivery to our baby.  Because she has a great relationship with many orphanages she is able to sometimes get updated pictures for us and updated measurements.

When we got our approval from China to adopt Qing, we immediately sent her a care package with a 20 page photo album filled with pictures of her new family along with a blanket and a doll and some PJ's, a dress, and some candy to share with her friends and nannies.  We also sent a disposable camera for the nannies to take pictures of her during these months that our adoption is in process.  We will be able to get the cameras and develop the pictures when we travel to China for "Gotcha Day".  We will continue to send her care packages and pictures and have Ann translate letters for her over the next 9 months.  Hopefully when we go to get her she will at least know what we look like.  This type of transition can't be easy for a 3 year old but I believe the communication via the care packages is the best possible way to help famaliarize her with us and the transition to a new forever family.  Luckily for us we have many friends and family that have been through this already with their toddlers and we will be calling on them alot I am sure!
